The History of Photography 2000 – Present
2001 – Canon releases the 1D, Polaroid declares bankruptcy
2002 – D100 released by Nikon
2003 – Nikon releases the D90 the first DSLR that can shoot HD video, Canon introduces the Digital Rebel the first DSL for under $1000
2004 – Kodak ceases production of film cameras signifying a major shift in photography away from film toward digital. Social networking sites like Facebook and Flickr emerge.
2005 – AgfaPhoto files for bankruptcy and ceases production of consumer films, Canon introduces the EOS 5D
2007 – Adobe releases the first version of Lightroom
2008 – Apple introduces the iPhone 3G with built in camera, Panasonic introduces the Lumix G1 the first mirrorless DSLR camera
2009 – Kodak ceases production of Kodachrome film
2010 – The Pentax 645D 40Mpx medium format camera introduced, Photo sharing app Instagram emerges.
2012 – Kodak files for bankruptcy, The D4 and the D800 released by Nikon, 75 million Nikkor lenses sold to date
2013 – 80th anniversary of Nikkor, Kodak ceases production of Acetate film base. Over 300 million photographs are uploaded to Facebook each day.
2014 – Panasonic releases the Lumix GH4 the first camera that can shoot video in 4k
