The History of Photography 1930 -1970
1931 – strobe photography developed by Harold Edgerton
1932 – The f/64 group formed by Ansel Adams, Willard Van Dyke, Edward Western and Imogen Cunningham. The f/64 group was dedicated to “straight photographic thought and production”.
1934 – Fuji Photo Film founded, Associated Press wire photo service begins
1935 – Max Dupain’s modernist images are published in Art in Australia
1936 – Kodachrome multi-layered colour film developed by Kodak, the world’s first SLR camera the Exakta 1 introduced by IHAGEE
1939 – The onset of WW2 sees photojournalists begin to extensively use small 35mm cameras
1947 – Polaroid Camera invented by Edwin Land, Holography invented by Dennis Gabor
1948 – First medium format SLR camera released by Swedish Company Hasselblad, Polaroid begins selling instant black and white film. Nikon begins selling its first 35mm camera
1952 – First colour photographs in the world to be published by a daily newspaper the Melbourne Argus in Australia.
1956 – Xerox develops the photocopier
1957 – First photograph scanned into a digital computer
1959 – Nikon F series camera released
1963 – Polaroid develops first instant colour film, first purpose built underwater camera developed by Nikon. Kodak instamatic cameras introduced
1968 – The Earth is photographed from the moon
