The History of Photography 1970 – 2000
1971 – Canon F-1 SLR Camera and FD Lenses introduced.
1972 – Texas Instruments patents a film-less electronic camera; National Gallery of Victoria opens the first photography department in an Australian Museum.
1973 – Australian Centre for photography opens in Sydney
1975 – First Digital camera using an image sensor developed by Kodak
1980 – Nikon F3 released by the Nikon Corporation, Nikon’s first electronic professional camera
1981 – First through the lens autofocus camera introduced by Pentax
1982 - Sony introduces the Mavica still video camera
1983 – Ken Duncan begins a five-year project to photograph Australia’s Iconic Landscapes producing over 80000 images in the process.
1985 – The iconic “The Afghan Girl” image is taken by Steve McCurry
1986 – Kodak invents the world’s first megapixel sensor.
1987 – Canon Introduces its popular EOS system
1989 – Fuji releases the DS-X the first portable digital camera
1990 – Adobe releases its first version of Photoshop
1991 – Kodak releases the DCS-100 the first digital SLR Camera which was based on the Nikon F3
1994 – SanDisk begins production of CompactFlash or CF memory cards for digital cameras
1997 – Philippe Kahn becomes the first person to publicly share an image via mobile phone
1999 – Nikon releases the D1 SLR which was the first DSLR designed from the ground up
2000 – Sharp introduces the first camera phone in Japan
